Removing Intimate Images (TAKE IT DOWN Act)

1. What this covers

This page is for asking us to remove an intimate image of you that was published without your consent.

It applies whether the image is a photograph or video of you, or a digital forgery — something generated or altered by any means, including AI, to appear to depict you. A convincing fake is covered by this process exactly as a real recording is.

You do not need to own the copyright in the image. You do not need to know who posted it. You do not need a lawyer.

2. Who can ask

• The person depicted.
• Someone authorised to act on their behalf — a parent or guardian, a lawyer, or a support organisation acting with their agreement.

If you are reporting an image of someone else without their involvement, please still report it. We will act on it under our Community Guidelines even though the process below is written for the person depicted.

If the person depicted is a minor, do not use this page. Content sexually exploiting a minor is handled under our child safety policy, which is a different and faster route with mandatory reporting attached.

3. How to ask

Send us:

1. A link to the content. The direct address of the video, stream, clip, comment, or profile. This matters more than anything else — we cannot act on a description alone.
2. A statement that you are the person depicted, or are authorised to act for them, and that the image was published without your consent.
3. How to reach you. An email address is enough.
4. A way to recognise you in the content, if it is not obvious — a timestamp, a description of where you appear.

Do not attach the image itself. A link is enough. Sending us further copies does not help and puts more of it in more places.

4. What we do

We aim to remove valid requests within 48 hours, and to make a reasonable effort to remove known copies and reuploads at the same time.

You will get an acknowledgement when we receive the request and a confirmation when the content is gone.

We do not require you to prove your identity with a government document as a condition of removal. If we cannot tell from the request whether you are the person depicted, we may ask a narrow follow-up question — but the default is to act.

5. What happens to the account

Publishing an intimate image of someone without their consent is a serious violation of our Community Guidelines, not merely a content problem. Accounts that do it are actioned, and in most cases removed.

6. If you are in immediate danger

This process removes content. It is not an emergency service.

• United States: call 911. The Cyber Civil Rights Initiative operates a crisis helpline at 844-878-2274.
• StopNCII.org can create a digital fingerprint of an image from your own device — without the image ever leaving it — and share that fingerprint with participating platforms to block matching uploads.

7. Our obligations

The TAKE IT DOWN Act requires covered platforms to provide a clear process for requesting removal of non-consensual intimate imagery, including digital forgeries, and to remove valid requests within 48 hours. This page is that process.
